Macha Mong Ruad

artwork

Ireland is very well known as a horse society. A dominate force in the breeding world (its our green, green grass =p ) Ireland has churned out many great racers and sport horses alike. Horses play such a great role in our history! It was believed that horses carried the souls of the fallen to the next realm on their backs, they could talk... when they wanted to... and where involved in many, many tales and legends. The goddess most closely associated with horses in Irish culture is Macha Mong Ruad (Macha red mane).
