Nick Stathopoulos holds a BA and an LLB and is one of Australia's premier
artist/illustrators. His creative endeavours encompass many disciplines.
Born in 1959, Nick is the winner of a mainstream Penguin television award
for art direction, and several (8) Ditmars (Aust. SF awards) for art.
He has painted some of the best cover art in Australian science fiction,
produced extensive box art and games graphics for the Strategic Studies
group, and worked for Hanna Barbera and the Disney Corporation as a
background artist. He has also written a small amount of science fiction.
In 1999 he was nominated for an international Hugo Award for his professional
SF art, and was nominated for a British SF Association Award for his cover
to the anthology DREAMING DOWN UNDER.
In 2003 he was one of the finalists for the Archibald Art Prize for portraiture
with his painting of Mr. Squiggle and his creator, Norman Hetherington.
Nick is one of the most sought-after illustrators of book covers. Award
winning authors whose covers have been graced by Nick's work include SF
favourites Terry Dowling and Jack Dann, and young adult fiction phenomenon
John Marsden.
A staunch advocate of artist's rights, he is a past president of the Sydney
branch of the Illustrator's Association of Australia, and has also served
as the Association's legal advisor.
